Signals and signal gantry.

Signals

Signalling is complicated and a great educational curve, so I decided to signal my model railway in my own way.
It had to be scratchbuilt of course as that is the purpose of this layout, so I decided to use some scrap left over brass form old loco kits built some time ago along with some plastruct form stock and balsa.
Following some pictures and basic plans I came up with these two offerings.

The double aspect on its own is simple enough to wire up to the auxiliary switch which is mounted on the underside of the point and motor, however the plan for the main throat set of three aspect signals was MUCH more complicated and caused a bit of a headache. The two double aspects on this large gantry were also quite simple to wire up.

Operationally they work very well and tell me exactly what is going on as the driver, signalman and fat controller ... Lol

The finished gantry with fixed distant which will warn the driver,
he may have to stop at the next signal.
And also the addition of a couple of ground signals for the engine release crossover in the station area, there are two that protect these points and work together.

Finally the pair of two aspect signals that protect the down line are painted and look really good.
